This has been made even more attractive by the addition of some extra old-vine Merlot to give it a bit more of the succulence and juiciness for which it is renowned, while still retaining its classic balance and style.

An elegant, soft, silky Merlot with aromas of cherries and spice. The palate is full of fresh red fruit with hints of herbs and the finish is faintly spicy. Warren Bogle and his mother Patty head up this go ahead family winery.

Tanners Red Burgundy, Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Miason Roche de Bellene 2009

  

Made by the talented Nicolas Potel this is a delicious, ripe, elegant Pinot Noir with strawberry fruit, good length and grip, from de-classified 'village' wines. For drinking young, it will none-the-less mature well for five years.

Don Cristobal 1492 Malbec. Argentina 2010

The Owners Favourite

 

A rich, full red with lovely damson and plum fruits. Soft tannins with a subtle hint of underlying oak. A really great value wine.

CJ Pask, Gimblett Road Merlot. Hawkes Bay 2008

 

A deliciously soft and fruity red wine with lovely concentrated plummy fruit and an elegant structure. Chris Pask and Kate Radburnd are leading the way in demonstrating the excellence of this part of Hawke's Bay.

 

Style: Full-bodied

Chénas, Rémi and Paola Benon 2009

 

A ripe, round wine full of luscious raspberry fruit with some juicy tannins. This has great concentration coupled with an attractive silky style. The finish is supple and rich with lovely fruit.

Château du Grand Moulas. Côtes du Rhône, M Ryckwaert 2010

 

Made near Orange at Mornas, this wine is ripe and flavoursome with depth of fruit and herby flavours. It is fresh, easy and very enjoyable now. The irrepressible Marc Ryckwaert has been making wine here for many years

Arjona. Rioja 2010

 

Antonio Navajas is a producer with a fine reputation and is based in the Rioja Alta. This has lovely cherry fruit flavours and a hint of vanilla. With a little Crianza wine added, it has an extra dimension.

Grape Varieties: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, 5% Mazuelo

Chianti DOCG. Duca di Sasseta 2010

 

Soft and flavoursome wine with good depth, soft fruit and easy tannins on the finish. This winery aims to produce modern style wines that are easy to drink.

Freedom Cross Pinotage Western Cape 2011

 

The product of a crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, Pinotage is South Africa's unique grape. This example is softly styled with intense blackberry fruit and mocha coffee notes.

Paparuda Pinot Noir. Estate Selection 2011 - Romania

Fragrant and fruity Pinot Noir with plenty of ripe red fruits, strawberries and raspberries, fresh and crunchy with hints of spice.

A soft, herbal pinot with red cherry, tarragon and fresh tobacco notes, and rather Italian in character. Serve Cool.

White Wine

Tanners White Burgundy. Bourgogne Chardonnay 2009

One of the few wines selected to go under the Tanners label, this is classic white Burgundy with a succulent, buttery Chardonnay character and a touch of oak to give it breadth. It is made in the excellent Côte Chalonnaise area.

Marqués de Cáceres Blanco. Rioja 2010

 

Marques de Cáceres has an enviable reputation for quality and value for money, this being extremely well-made in a fresh, fruity style from Viura grapes. No oak, just bags of ripe fruit with a vibrant and clean finish.

From Montréal-du-Gers in South-West France comes this delicious citrus and floral white. Perfectly balanced, the freshness cuts in to the exotically rich palate preparing you well for the next glass!

Wide River Chenin Blanc. Robertson 2011

 

Clean and bright Chenin Blanc, peppery and aromatic, with tropical fruit flavours of ripe fig and melon backed up with crisp, refreshing acidity. Modern style wine from the fertile Robertson Valley.

Pampas Chardonnay/Torrontes. Mendoza 2011

 

This has a lovely balance between the tropical, rounded Chardonnay and floral crispness from the Torrontes grapes. Great value, everyday drinking wine.

From the Adriatic coastal vineyards of Abruzzo, this Pinot Grigio is crisp, refreshing and unoaked, making it perfect for drinking before or during any meal. Pinot Grigio is the dry white of the moment!

An attractive biscuity nose leads onto a bright fruity palate with hints of pears and melon. An excellent aperitif on its own or with peach juice as a Bellini. Prosecco is the grape variety as well as the style of the wine.

Castell d'Olèrdola Cava Brut Rosado (Spain)

 

A fresh and attractive wine with delicious summer fruit aromas and flavours, strawberries and raspberries. It is delicate and floral with a dry finish and is made by the quality minded house of Olivella Ferrari.

 

Style: Brut (dry)
Grape Varieties: 60% Garnacha, 20% Monastrell, 20% Pinot Noir

Pampas del Sur Extra Brut (Argentina)

 

A succulent blend of 60% Chenin Blanc 15% Torrontes and 25% Pedro Ximénez originating from Argentina's Tupungato region. The nose and palate are of pineapple fruit with hints of citrus. The finish is fine and lingering.

Dessert Wine

Only the oldest vines in the domaine are used for the production of this rich and concentrated sweet wine. Intense flavour with wonderful botrytis fruit and a fresh long finish. An excellent alternative to Sauternes!
